What's in a Name?
There will be significant changes to Minutiae coming in the somewhat-near future; namely, another move away from LiveJournal, for personal and professional reasons. The professional: the commenting system here is rough, and I want to try to encourage more comments, expand my readership, and hopefully eventually parlay this whole reviewing gig into a freelancing opportunity somewhere. What does that mean for you? The same content, with some new additions, including a possible podcast.

What I need before I move again is help in choosing a domain name. The following names are taken:

  • minutiae.com
  • jeffmartin.com
  • jeffreymartin.com
I don't want to deal with putting numerals in my domain name (no more minutiae31.com or sjuhawk31.com, for my own sake). I don't know that minutiaeblog, theminutiaeblog, or minutiaetheblog are good names; you can help me decide that. What other ideas? You know what I write, who I am, and so on. The tone of the site isn't going to change much; hopefully it will get a bit funnier, but I'm not going for iaimtomisbehave.com (taken from a line in Serenity), so try to keep that in mind. Who has suggestions?

I was looking for more cool names, when I came across this quip about how engineers come up with code-names for the tech they are designing.
"Take Apple's Power Macintosh 7100. Designed in the early 1990s, it was code-named Sagan as a tip of the hat to the noted astronomer, Carl Sagan. But when Sagan heard that the next version of the Power Mac was going by his family name, he took exception. Before long, Sagan's lawyers were asking Apple to change the 7100's code name. Apple complied, but the product's new code name, BHA, which was widely taken to stand for "Butt-Head Astronomer," did little to appease Sagan. He sued Apple in 1994, and the case eventually was settled out of court. How about something totally unrelated, e.g. samurai tomato, or ketchup linguine, fistular bombardment (that sounds hot!), laser microphone, viking love story, razorback mustardbowl, cherry mindscumb, fifty towel fusillade, rhesus mouthwash, teddybear clippings, spraycan catastrophe, bubblegum disaster, clever fritters, mango rubberducky, conscious intervention, masquerading lunacy, rabid horseradish, movie hawk, stepping stone of glory, monkey pirates, daily duncecap, lemming lechery, salivating cattlebrands

Wait. Movie Hawk. I like that one. I vote for Movie Hawk.

Noah, Movie Hawk was a stoke of genius. Unfortunately, it's taken. As is Film Hawk.

Damn.

I always liked the phrase "Silly Machinery" from "Almost Famous." Just a thought.

That's good, but I don't really feel the connection that "Almost Famous" that many do. Maybe it can be the name of a side-section of There it Is, which is too great a blog name to abandon.

Not a bad idea . . . . not bad at all. Thanks for that. Okay, let's see here . . . there has to be some pop culture reference point that would work, right?

Get Busy Living? ("Shawshank")

Livin', L-I-V-I-N!! ("Dazed and Confused")

I Am Spartacus ("That Thing You Do")

The Dude Abides ("Big Lebowski")

A Pack of Red Apples (Tarantino)

That's about all I have for now. I know it's pretty film-centric, but I know movies more than anything else. Hope these help.

A Weezer song title, perhaps? Or is that too obvious? "El Scorcho" or "Island In The Sun" would be pretty cool blog names, no?

P.S. Sorry about the meandering-ness (oh, that sounds awful) of the last comment. I get that way sometimes -- especially at work.

I'm looking into Weezer lyrics, Brendan Benson songs/lyrics, and lines from Kevin Smith movies.

The Reel World (I was thinking more Matchbox 20 than MTV.)
Headliner (Both for your journalistic side and the film/theater associations.)
Top-Billing

Oh, and would you believe it? The Blogateer was, at one point, taken but has since expired.
